If you are a refuge from Livejournal, you may know who we are already. LJ Idol is a writing competition/community that has been active since 2006, with nearly a 1,000 writers having passed through our gates, creating over 20,000 pieces of original writing in the process.
If you know who we are, you are probably already on your way over to sign up for the mini season. I look forward to seeing you.
If you don't know, here's the quick version:
- We're community focused on writing on a weekly basis, mixed with my love of competition reality shows (like Survivor, Top Chef, etc)
- There is a prompt every week and a deadline. You write and link your entry.
- All forms of writing and/or creative expression are welcome. (We've had people create comic strips and write songs in previous seasons, to give examples of the "creative expression")
- There is a vote, usually public.
- Someone is eliminated, and we keep doing this until there is 1 winner.
- It's completely free, although for this particular mini season, people have been throwing money into the Community Chest/purse. Half of what is raised will be going to the Final Four. Right now the total is over $150 and growing.
- Sign-ups are happening now and will continue until the end of September. therealljidol.dreamwidth.org/996363.html
I really hope to see you there.
I'm new to DW but would have heard a lot of great things about the site. Right now this is a "pop up" experiment, but I hope to see a lot of new faces that might miss the sense of community of old school Livejournal but with the freedoms of Dreamwidth.
